FAQ's
Over 60,000 British people have invested in Cyprus, especially in the South in areas such as Paphos. The relaxed way of life combined with English speaking friendly Cypriots, fantastic climate, low cost of living, almost zero crime rate and some of the best investment opportunities in Europe makes Cyprus on of the most sought after locations to live in.
Cyprus now comes under the jurisdiction of the European Court having joined the EU in 2004. It will make full membership this year (2007) and this should see a significant rise in property prices over the next few years. The good news is that Cyprus is around 30% cheaper than countries such as Spain and Portugal so buying a property in Cyprus makes good financial sense. In addition Cyprus benefits from longer summers and very mild winters making the rental market very buoyant.
If you are considering investing in Cyprus property whether it be a beachfront apartment, picturesque rural villa or golf development you still need to think carefully before you invest.
Firstly try to find an estate agent that you fell comfortable with. Many people from the UK like to use British Estate Agents where possible. Agents can usually negotiate a much better deal with developers than if you approach them directly and many also offer good after sales service and added value such as mortgage advice, help with moving and issues such as taxation and local laws.
Although you may be buying a property in Cyprus as a holiday home or somewhere to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle it's important that your property delivers good growth. The vendor will be able to provide this information but also back this up by asking your Cyprus estate agent.
Good estate agents will recommend a selection of solicitors, accountants and banks in addition to offering furniture packages and advising on all aspects of moving and living in Cyprus. Don't just use the solicitors recommended by the developers as there may be a conflict of interest. At Viewspace.co.uk we have access to a number of excellent mortgage packages that offer low rates of interest, interest only options and just 15% deposit.
