Education
The education system in Cyprus is excellent and very similar to the UK. Many of the subjects are the same as the UK national curriculum. Therefore moving a child from a UK school to a Cypriot school is relatively easy as they both recognise qualifications from each others systems. The Cypriot government is keen that all EU children integrate successfully into the schools in Cyprus.
The Cyprus schools provide help to children who don't speak Greek by providing special lessons and also training their teachers in other cultural backgrounds.
The Cyprus state schools provide education for children aged 4 to 18 five days a week.
- Pre school runs from 4 to 5 years
- Primary school runs from 5 to 11
- Lower Secondary runs from 11 to 15
- Higher Secondary runs from 15 to 18 years
In addition to the state school system Cyprus has an excellent private school network which offer a choice of special courses. These are generally of a very high standard and achieve excellent results for their GCSE and A Level curriculums.
There are also a number of technical schools and universities to cater for people looking for higher education.
